Black leaders spoke to reporters about the urgency to stabilize, repair, and rebuild areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They criticized the media’s change of focus to looting and vandalism rather than the desperation of the people. They also called for American businesses and citizens to help their fellow citizens saying, “The people are not refugees, they are American citizens.” They then answered questions from members of the audience.
