Former Representative Jim Leach, head of the National Endowment for the Humanities, talked about the importance of understanding American history, culture, and the arts. He discussed issues including the fundamental importance of the arts and humanities, the differences between the two areas, and his effort to bring civility to public discourse. He was interviewed by Dana Gioia, former head of the National Endowment for the Arts. He also responded to questions from others present.
