Current and former members of Congress introduced three recipients of honors for their work to further civil rights in an awards dinner. Justine Dart, Dorothy Height, and Raul Yzaguirre spoke following their introductions to acknowledge the honors and briefly discuss their backgrounds in the civil rights movement. Following the speakers' remarks, the speakers on the dais and banquet attendees arose to sing, “We Shall Overcome.” The awards ceremony followed speeches on the current status of civil rights in America by Ralph Neas and Benjamin Hooks. close
