The U.S. House of Representatives met and voted on a number of bills. They also continued discussion of the on going budget impasse and potential government shutdown as well as adjustments to the tax code. They agreed to H.J.Res. 647, disapproving of the president’s recommendations to extend Most Favored Nation status to China. The House passed H.R. 4939, extending conditional Most Favored Nation status to China, after agreeing to the Pelosi and Porter amendments placing conditions on what standards China must meet to receive the favored status. The House also passed H.J.Res. 677, making further continuing appropriations. Congressmen also made a number of floor speeches covering a variety of topics including the Civil Rights Act of 1990, a eulogy for Rep. Charles Farnsley (D-KY), and the state of the economy among others. close
