Conservative Republican congressmen spoke to the press about issues facing the 113th Congress, including raising the debt ceiling and deficit reduction. Representatives Schweikert, Labrador, Duncan, and Massie gave tentative support for a Republican plan that would suspend the debt ceiling until May 19, 2013, but calls for a Senate budget by April and a balanced budget in 10 years. Representative Schweikert said they would trust the Republican leadership but warned that if they fail, “there would be hell to pay.” Other topics included American perceptions of the Republican Party, immigration reform, and tax reform.

Conversations with Conservatives is a group of conservative House of Representatives members holding monthly meetings with the press to talk about the conservative agenda and issues of the day. This event in the Rayburn House Office Building was held in conjunction with the Heritage Foundation’s weekly Bloggers Briefing. close
