Witnesses testified about proposed safety standards for fresh fruits and vegetables as well as organic foods. In the first panel, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials answered questions on implementing those standards, the role of FDA inspectors, as well as recent recalls of pistachios and peanuts. Farmers on the second panel talked about how federal safety standards could impact their farms.
