The Navy discharged Petty Officer Meinhold because of a military ban on homosexuals. A California U.S. District Court ruled the ban unconstitutional and ordered him reinstated. The case was appealed by the Department of Defense. This is the Defense Department’s appeal to Meinhold v. Defense Department that was argued before a court of appeals in California. close
