Rep. Dannemeyer, member of the House Budget Committee, spoke to Yale students about the ban on homosexuals in the military. President-elect Clinton has indicated he would end the ban, which has concerned members of the military and defenders of the ban as being possibly detrimental to military discipline and morale. He framed his argument within the larger battle for hegemony in society between atheism and religious belief. Applause from the audience punctuated Rep. Dannemeyer’s remarks. Following his prepared remarks, he responded to questions from members of the audience and representatives of the Yale Political Union spoke in opposition and support of Rep. Dannemeyer’s remarks.
