The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit heard arguments in the case Hertz v. New York City, which concerned a New York city ordinance that outlawed rental companies from differentiating rates by the area of the rental. Hertz Rental Car Company had previously charged higher rates for renting cars in high crime areas, and filed suit against the city to maintain their policy. Earlier in the year, the U.S. District Court of Southern New York had ruled in favor of the city, and had put the case on a fast track for appeal.
