Senator Heinz had been a member of the House for five years before winning a Senate seat in 1976 and had won every election he entered. A moderate-to-liberal Republican, Senator Heinz was a member of the Senate Finance and Housing and Urban Affairs Committees. He was known for his work on trade issues and on behalf of the elderly. Senate colleagues spoke of Senator Heinz' work in the Senate and his devotion to his role as representative of the electorate. His son also spoke on the strong influence his father had on his life. close
