Several former surgeons general discussed public health policy challenges facing the nation. They also examined the role of surgeons general in forming public health policy and how this was reflected in the events during their various periods of service. Much of the discussion focused on the politics of public health policy and the struggle against tobacco usage. They also took questions from the audience. After the panel discussion, Dr. Satcher delivered a speech about his agenda for public health and Attorney General Reno spoke about the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
