On January 14, House Democrats sponsored nearly two hundred town meetings across the country. The public forums were designed to focus attention on the problems of health care here in the United States. Discussion ranged from the increasing cost of health insurance to its long-term effect on the economy and future U.S. competitiveness. The meetings also provided Americans an opportunity to discuss health care reform and to share policy ideas with their congressional representatives. In Cheverly, Maryland, Representative Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) discussed health care with his constituents in one of the health care town meetings. close
