James Green talked with Ms. Taylor about his book, Death in the Haymarket: A Story of Chicago, the First Labor Movement, and the Bombing That Divided Gilded Age America, published by Pantheon. Mr. Green recounted a bomb explosion in 1886 at a Chicago labor rally that killed two policemen and changed the direction of the labor movement and its twenty-year battle for an eight-hour workday. He responded to audience members' questions.
