Jared Smith talked about Charles Hayden, the man often credited with the founding of the city of Tempe, Arizona. In 1858, Mr. Hayden came to the Arizona territoriy and began running freight to army posts, mining camps, and small towns in the territory. Mr. Hayden would later open a store, flour mill, and ferry at a location along the Salt River that would eventually become the city of Tempe.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in Tempe, Arizona, from October 1-6 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
