The National Park Service and U.S. Navy hosted a 75th Anniversary Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. Admiral Harris delivered the keynote address in which he talked about the sacrifice and bravery of those who died and the debt owed to veterans. The ceremony included pass-in-review honors to the USS Arizona by the guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey, a “Missing Man” flyover formation, and wreath presentations for each branch of the armed forces. After the presentation of colors by U.S. Pacific Command Joint Service Color Guard, the national anthem by the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, and the Hawaiian state song, Kahus Kanahele and Hew Len performed a Hawaiian blessing. The Reverend Tanaka prayed for peace. The ceremony ended with a rifle salute by a U.S. Marine Corps detail, the playing of Echo Taps by the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, and a fly-by from a 1940s Globe Swift plane of the Pacific Warbirds. close
