U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley was joined by her British and French counterparts in announcing their protest of a United Nations General Assembly debate on a prospective global ban on nuclear weapons. All told, about 40 nations would be skipping the talks, Ambassador Haley said. She explained that the U.S. and its allies viewed keeping their nuclear stockpiles as a security measure for their citizens, and that North Korea’s nuclear ambitions made global disarmament talks impractical. The British and French representatives said their countries remained committed to pursuing nuclear anti-proliferation goals through other international frameworks. close
