The book recounts his life in politics as a senior policy adviser to Vice President Hubert Humphrey and later as adviser to seven Democratic presidential candidates Hubert Humphrey, George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, and Paul Tsongus. After his talk he answered questions from members of the audience.
