The subcommittee heard testimony from Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Louis Sullivan on the department’s fiscal year 1993 budget. Among the issues brought up in the hearing were funding for Headstart and other federal education programs, and the amount of investment in America and its relationship to American competitiveness in the global economy. Other witnesses included mayors of American cities who testified on federal aid for American urban areas.
