Rep. McCarthy talked about gun control. She said in an op-ed the previous day that Virginia Tech’s tragedy should spur the nation to stronger gun control laws. She said gun laws have been weakened over the past decade. She wants to work with people promoting gun rights, but also favors legislation that would ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips. She responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.
