In the first of two hearings on Gulf War illnesses, committee members heard testimony from military chemical weapons officers and a former CIA analyst about possible troop exposure to such weapons during the conflict. They testified about their personal knowledge of incidents involving chemical weapons, and Major Hebert claimed that his exposure led to his Lou Gehrig’s disease. The witnesses and the members also both claimed that the Defense Department has denied, if not covered up, any incidents such as these. close
