The Senate Foreign Relations Committee heard testimony from a number of witnesses on two main topics: the possibility that Iraq could have developed nuclear weapon capability, and the possibility for a negotiated settlement to the crisis. The hearing was Chaired by Senator Claiborne Pell, D-Rhode Island. This was the first of a series of hearings. Witnesses included, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Richard Perle, Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy and several representatives from church organizations. close
