Mr. Dow talked about his book American Gulag: Inside U.S. Immigration Prisons, published by University of California Press. Mark Dow recounted the history of U.S. immigration laws and described what he sees as shortcomings of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services (now called the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services). He related some of the abuses he discovered during his research and through interviews with detainees and officers. To support his arguments he described the U.S. policy toward Cuban immigrants.
