Stacy Schiff talked about her book The Great Improvisation: Benjamin Franklin, France and the Birth of America, published by Henry Holt and Company. The author told the story of Benjamin Franklin’s seven-year trip to France to fulfill his mission of forming an alliance with the French government in order to secure American independence. She described the influence of Franklin’s Paris world on the creation of the United States, and the extraordinary influence that Franklin had on Paris society, in his time.

This event was the French Institute’s preliminary salute to the Benjamin Franklin Tercentennial year, in partnership with the University’s History Department and the Penn Book Store. close
