Secretary Ridge addressed the governors on the status of the Department of Homeland Security. He noted that communication worked well during the Northeastern electricity blackout last week. He answered questions from the governors. Secretary Ridge is former governor of Pennsylvania, 1995-2001.

Rep. Oberstar, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee ranking member, talked about transportation issues and about the prospects of passage of new legislation. He proposes using various transportation funds for state projects to create jobs.
