Panelists talked about the impact of public or government financing of political campaigns. They focused on Professor Michael Miller’s book, Subsidizing Democracy: How Public Funding Changes Elections and How It Can Work in the Future, in which he looks at public financing in Arizona and other jurisdictions and analyzes how these programs impact political elections. Other speakers included former Arizona State Representative Matt Heinz, who spoke about his experience running via a publicly financed system, and Michael Malbin the executive director of the Campaign Finance Institute.
