Sara Elliott talked about the assassination of Kentucky Governor William Goebel (D), the only U.S. governor ever to be assassinated while in office. He was shot January 30, 1900, as he approached the capitol where his disputed election was being decided. He was sworn in the next day and died February 3, 1900. Ms. Elliott was interviewed at the Old State Capitol, where there is a statue of Governor Goebel and a plaque where he fell.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) on their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” were in Frankfort, Kentucky, on March 28-31 and August 1-3, 2011, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Frankfort Plant Board local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed.
