The Bretton Woods committee, a group of academics, business executives, and financiers met in Washington to discuss the state of the global economy during their annual meeting. Their conference, entitled “Global Economic Problems, Solutions, and Business Outlook,” opened with a speech from Barber Conable, outgoing president of the World Bank, on the reorganization and performance of the World Bank. Following Mr. Conable’s speech, a number of international financiers including Mr. Frenkel and Mr. Gyohten discussed global financial prospects, extrapolated from current financial trends. They answered questions on financial matters from members of the audience. close
