Subcommittee members talked with reporters about the possibility of a computer malfunction when the year changes from 1999 to 2000. Rep. Horn, chair of the House Government Reform Information and Technology Subcommittee, announced the results of a survey of 24 major governmental departments. The survey requested status reports on when and at what expense the departments plan to address the problem of computer software which cannot recognize the year 2000.
