The three candidates running to be Georgia's next governor met for their final debate on Sunday at the studios of Georgia Public Broadcasting in Atlanta. Democrat Roy Barnes, Republican Nathan Deal, and Libertarian John Monds were running to replace Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue, who was term-limited. Mr. Barnes was governor from 1999-2003, when he was unseated by Gov. Perdue. Mr. Deal served in the U.S. House from 1993 until March 2010 when he resigned to run for governor. Mr. Monds is the first Libertarian candidate in U.S. history to receive more than 1 million votes when he ran for the Public Service Commission in 2008. He is also the first African-American to appear on the general election ballot for governor in the state's history.
