Author and Catholic theologian George Weigel talked about his life, his career, and his body of writing. Topics included theology, the politics of the Catholic Church, the sexual abuse scandals, and his relationships with the popes about whom he has written. Background footage was shown of Pope Benedict’s arrival at Andrews Air Force Base on April 16, 2008. Mr. Weigel is the author of over a dozen books, including Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II; Freedom and Its Discontents: Catholicism Confronts Modernity; The Cube and the Cathedral: Europe, America, and Politics Without God; and God’s Choice: Pope Benedict XVI and the Future of the Catholic Church. Mr. Weigel is currently a distinguished senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and a contributor to Newsweek magazine and Vatican analyst for NBC News.
