Academics analyzed the results of the 2012 election. Historian Richard Norton Smith said 2012 was not a “status quo” election and that President Obama could have more trouble dealing with more liberal members of his party on certain issues than Republicans. Jeremy Mayer said the Republican Party needed to moderate its position on tax hikes. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
