President Bush and President Putin spoke to reporters about relations between the U.S. and Russia, the G-8 meetings taking place in St. Petersburg, growing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, and Middle East policy. They also answered questions from the reporters. In answering one question about promoting democracy in Russia, President Putin obliquely criticized U.S. policy in Iraq saying “we certainly do not want to have the same kind of democracy as they have in Iraq.”
