David Gergen, editor-at-large for U.S. News and World Report, Morton Abramowitz, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and Josette Shiner, managing editor of the Washington Times, heard statements from three former CIA directors on the future of U.S. intelligence gathering and the challenges facing the agency. The Council of Foreign Relations sponsored group examined a wide variety of topics, including internal reforms at the agency to deal with security problems and the diverse threats to U.S. and international security, including nuclear weapons, rogue states and international crime. close
