The Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee members heard testimony from Secretary Winston Lord, former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian Affairs, and others concerning developments in Chinese internal and external policies after the death of Deng Xiaoping. They explored the legacy of Deng, from the Tiannenmen Square massacre to the increasing economic trade with the U.S. They also discussed the challenge of including China in the international community. Senator Craig Thomas, R-Wyoming, is the Chairman for this hearing. close
