President Obama signed the International Press Freedom Act. The bill was named after Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002. It directs the State Department to include press freedom issues in future human rights reports. In his remarks President Obama said, the legislation “sends a strong message from the U.S. government and the State Department that we’re paying attention on how foreign governments are operating when it comes to the press.” close
