National Press Foundation’s 7th Annual Awards dinner, the following journalists were honored for their contributions to the field. As Editor of the Year, Janet Chusmir, executive editor of the Miami Herald, was posthumously honored. John Seigenthaler, publisher of The Tennessean received the Lifetime Achievement award for strengthening the vision and leadership of his field. A Special Citation was given to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, an organization which is dedicated to preserving the press' first amendment rights. A new award for Outstanding Political Cartooning was awarded to Signe Wilkinson. The Distinguished Lifetime Service to Broadcast News was given to ABC’s Roone Arledge. close
