The opening session of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 included introductory remarks from Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum, and Swiss President Merz. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin gave the opening address. He stressed the need for international action to resolve the global economic, financial and energy crisis. Following his remarks, the chief executive officers of Nestle, Renault-Nissan, and Dell joined the Russian prime minister for a panel discussion on Russia’s response to the global economy.
