Secretary-General Annan read a statement about the interim report released today by the Independent Inquiry Committee of the United Nations Oil-for-Food Program. He said the committee had cleared him of trying to influence a procurement process with a company that employed his son. He listed accomplishments of the United Nations during the past year. During his brief question-and-answer period, one reporter asked whether he was thinking of stepping down, to which he answered, “Hell, no.” The secretary-general then left the news conference, and Mr. Brown continued answering reporters' questions. close
