Oral arguments were heard before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the case Flowers v. Carville. The case brought by Gennifer Flowers charges James Carville, George
Stephanopoulos and Little, Brown & Company with defamation and false light. These charges stem from statements published on CNN’s “Larry King Live”
program in January and February of 1998 and statements in a book authored by
Stephanopoulos. Former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton is also named in
the defamation lawsuit. The lower court dismissed the defamation lawsuit
(filed on Flowers behalf by Judicial Watch) in November 2000, because the
U.S. District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada ruled the case had passed the
statute of limitations. The complaint is seeking monetary damages from the
defendants and costs of attorney’s fees.
