The opening general session of the Governor’s Hurricane Conference, hosted by Florida Governor Jeb Bush, included remarks by Mike Brown of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Max Mayfield, the director of the National Hurricane Center. The speakers used video footage, charts, and graphs to discuss the damages incurred by hurricane. They also discussed trends in major storms and possibilities for the year 2005.

Florida was hit by four hurricanes in 2004, the first time since 1886 a single state had been hit by four major storms. June 1st marks the first day of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
