The South Carolina House of Representatives voted 93-18 to take up a bill to remove the Confederate flag from the state Capitol grounds. The South Carolina Senate passed the bill by a 36-3 margin. The legislation came about in reaction to the June 2015 mass shooting at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the Southern United States. close
