Hal Elliott Wert talked about his book Hoover, The Fishing President: Portrait of the Private Man and His Life Outdoors, published by Stackpole Books. In the book Mr. Wert details President Herbert Hoover’s passion for fishing. The book includes a collection of photos and an interview with now retired U.S. Senator Mark Hatfield (R-OR) describing how President Hoover used the sport as a relief from the pressures of Washington D.C. Mr. Wert read excerpts from the book. He talked about how the financial depression overshadows all other aspects of President Hoover’s life and current reassessments of his accomplishments. He discussed the lack of material on President Hoover and the process of writing the book. After his presentation Mr. Wert responded to questions from members of the audience.
