Reverend Jeremiah Wright delivered the keynote address at the 53rd Annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner sponsored by the NAACP on the theme of change. In his remarks he emphasized the need to recognize and reconcile racial, religious, educational, and cultural differences among Americans. He exhorted the audience to value differences, and not view them as deficiencies. He also charged that his critics had unfairly characterized his teachings as “divisive” rather than “descriptive,” sometimes through humorous barbs which provoked laughter from the audience. close
