Elizabeth Robinson, Deputy Director of the Congressional Budget Office, talked about the Federal budget deficit estimates released the previous day by the Congressional Budget Office. The estimates predict the largest U.S. budget deficit in history ($422 billion this year), though the figure is smaller than was forecast six months ago. The CBO also predicted that the 10-year deficit will be higher than was forecast 6 months ago -- $2.204 trillion, $281 billion higher than predicted in March. The guest discussed what drives deficits, whether they’re bad for the U.S. economy, and what solutions there may be to get rid of them. She responded to audience telephone calls. close
