U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Deputy Director William Werkheiser testified at a hearing on cases of data manipulation at his agency between and 1996 and 2014. An internal investigation of a Lakewood, Colorado, USGS laboratory confirmed the misconduct and also identified personnel and management problems. Mr. Werkheiser stated that scientific integrity is essential to his agency and outlined steps to enhance data quality assurance to prevent future misconduct. close
