The committee heard testimony from Secretary Watkins and examined the Energy Department’s progress and plans concerning the complex modernization and environmental and waste management activities of its nuclear facilities. Considerations included resuming production at the Savannah River site reactor and the Rocky Flats plant in a safe and environmentally sound manner. The 2010 Report, published in December 1988, has been withdrawn but no replacement has been published. The committee has requested a five-year budget plan or a realistic environmental restoration and waste management plan from the department.
