Mr. Kaufman talked about his article on the “FEMA city” set up by the government in Florida after last year’s hurricanes. He discussed how many evacuees are still in this “city,” and the lessons to be learned from this while searching for temporary housing for Katrina evacuees. Mr. Kaufman also responded to questions and comments from telephone callers.
Participating by telephone, Phil Ingrassia spoke about the use of RVs by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the Hurricane Katrina recovery.
Also participating by telephone was Bruce Savage, who discussed the use of mobile homes by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the recovery from hurricane Katrina. The Manufactured Housing Institute had written a letter to the editor in opposition to The Washington Post piece describing the FEMA cities as “trailer ghettos.”
