Author Seth Mnookin spoke about his book, Hard News: The Scandals at the New York Times and Their Meaning for American Media, published by Random House. He spoke about recent scandals at the New York Times, including revelations of plagiarism and fabrication by a former reporter, and the subsequent resignation of editor Howell Raines. Mr. Mnookin spoke about the process of researching and writing the book, as well as the impact the scandals have had on journalism.

Mr. Rosenbaum spoke about his book The Myth of Moral Justice: Why Our Legal System Fails to Do What’s Right, published by Harper Collins. He argued that the U.S. legal system is beset by paradoxes and a disjunction between judgment and moral conviction. He asserted that these systemic problems undermine the esteem and authority of the legal system. He placed the desire for moral justice in historical context and discussed evolving notions of justice and law.
