The Adjudicatory Subcommittee of the House Standards of Official Conduct Committee met to determine whether any counts in the Statement of Alleged Violation charges against former Ways and Means Committee Chair Charles Rangel have been proven by clear and convincing evidence. The charges, several on tax and financial disclosure violations, were the result of a nearly two-year investigation.

Following a closed-door meeting, the committee denied Representative Rangel’s request to delay his trial. Chief Counsel Chisam presented what he said was “uncontested evidence” that the congressman’s fund-raising and failure to disclose his assets or pay taxes on a Dominican villa had violated congressional rules. close
