Military historian Carlo D’Este talked about his life and career. Mr. D’Este retired from the Army in 1978 at the rank of Lt. Colonel after tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam. He is the author of six books on military campaigns and biographies including Decision in Normandy (1983), Bitter Victory: The Battle for Sicily, 1943 (1988), World War II in the Mediterranean, 1942-1945 (1990), Fatal Decision: Anzio and the Battle for Rome (1991), Patton: A Genius for War (1995), and Eisenhower: A Soldier’s Life (2002). He responded to telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail from viewers. Footage of his home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts was also shown. close
